Administrative Stuff

DeCal Registration

  • Complete and submit the Course Proposal Form to the Academic Senate and The DeCal Program at least one month before the start of the new semester (please check for actual deadlines)
  • You need to obtain the faculty advisor and department chair's signatures, make sure that they are not out of town
  • Make several photocopies of the form before submitting it (or save a scanned version)!
  • We have been registered as a 98/198 course for the last two semesters. It would actually be more appropriate for us to be a 97/197 course (field studies).
  • After the course has been approved, submit a photocopy of the approved course proposal form to Trish in 201 Gilman and she will let you make room reservations. Ask Trish or Kristin to add the decal class to Telebears with a class size of 30 students per section.

Room Reservations

  • Contact Trish or Kristin ASAP in order to make room reservations - this sometimes takes a while. Make room reservations for a two-hour period (for example, reserve 6-8 pm if the decal class runs from 6-7 pm). You can request a room with a projector/mobile desks/etc.
  • Dwinelle is the traditional DeCal location.
  • You can also reserve rooms for other decal activities. For example, in the Spring 2009 semester we used 775 Tan for the first decal meeting because we did not have a regular room yet.

Reimbursements

  • Reimburse BEAM expenses by submitting receipts to Trish or Kristin. Also submit a clear list that allows items on receipts to be identified which includes: date of purchase, store, item, price of item, purpose of item, total price (including tax).
  • Identified food items used in projects as "not consumed" if this is the case.
  • If food was consumed, you may need to provide a list of the people who ate the food to the chemical engineering department.
  • Driving expenses is reimbursed by mileage, rather than a gas receipt.

Faculty Adviser

  • Professor Jeffrey Reimer is our faculty adviser. Be nice to him :)
  • Meet with Prof. Reimer at the very beginning of the semester and at the end of the semester. Maybe meet for a progress-update meeting at the end of the semester.
  • Prof. Reimer is the actual "instructor on record" for the decal course. Give him the recommended grades for decal students at the end of the semester and he will enter them into Bearfacts.
